Chemical peels in Wilmington, NC
What are Chemical Peels?
Chemical peels are exfoliating treatments designed to improve skin tone, texture, clarity, and overall radiance by encouraging cell turnover. At Self Skin Studio, we use chemical peels to help improve concerns like acne, pigmentation, uneven texture, dullness, and early signs of aging.
We offer light to medium-depth peels depending on your skin type, concerns, and goals. During your consultation, we’ll help choose the peel that makes the most sense for your skin and the amount of downtime you are comfortable with.

Who is a good candidate for chemical peels?
Chemical peels can be a great option for patients who want to improve pigmentation, acne, uneven texture, dullness, or early signs of aging. They are often a good fit for patients who want brighter, smoother skin and are comfortable with light to moderate peeling depending on the treatment selected.
During your appointment, we look at your skin type, concerns, and goals to decide whether a light peel, Glaze Peel, or Perfect Peel is the best fit. Some patients may also be better candidates for treatments like Hydrafacial, microneedling, Moxi, or BBL depending on what they are trying to improve.

What to expect during treatment
Your chemical peel appointment begins with a consultation and skin assessment so we can understand your concerns and choose the right peel for your skin. Once your skin is cleansed and prepped, your provider will apply the selected peel and guide you through what to expect based on the depth of treatment.
Some peels feel very light with little to no downtime, while others involve more visible peeling over the following days. Most appointments take about 30 minutes depending on the peel selected and whether any additional treatment steps are included.
After treatment, your skin may look slightly red, feel tight, or begin to flake or peel over the following days depending on the peel used. As the skin renews itself, it typically looks brighter, smoother, and more even.

Why Patients Choose Self Skin Studio for Chemical Peels
At Self Skin Studio, chemical peels are approached with a customized plan based on your skin type, concerns, and goals. We do not use the same peel on every patient. Instead, we choose the depth and type of peel based on what your skin needs most, whether that is improving pigment, clearing acne, smoothing texture, or brightening dull skin.
Our approach is focused on helping skin look clearer, brighter, and more even while supporting long-term skin health. The goal is to choose the right peel for your skin, not simply the strongest one.

Chemical Peel FAQs
What do chemical peels treat?
Chemical peels can help improve fine lines, acne, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, sun damage, uneven skin tone, and rough texture by exfoliating the skin and encouraging cell turnover.
Do chemical peels hurt?
Chemical peels are usually very tolerable. You may feel temporary tingling, warmth, or mild stinging when the peel is applied.
What is the downtime of a chemical peel?
Downtime depends on the peel used. Light peels usually involve little to no downtime, while deeper peels can cause more redness, tightness, and visible peeling over several days.
How long to see my chemical peel results?
Results vary depending on the peel. Light peels often leave skin looking brighter within several days, while peels that involve visible peeling usually show clearer, smoother results about a week after treatment.
Will I peel from my chemical peel?
Some peels cause little to no visible peeling, while others involve more noticeable flaking or shedding over several days. Your provider will talk you through what to expect based on the peel selected for your skin.
How many treatments do I need?
That depends on your skin type, concerns, and goals. After your consultation, we will recommend a treatment plan based on what makes the most sense for your skin.
Can I get a chemical peel while pregnant or nursing?
Chemical peels are not suitable if you are pregnant or nursing.
What should I do to prepare for my chemical peel?
- Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before special event. Redness, swelling, and peeling may be apparent in that time period.
- Please let your provider know if you have a history of cold sores. An antiviral may be prescribed.
- Please reschedule your appointment if you have an active rash in the area being treated.
- Avoidance of Accutane for the past 6 months is required.
- If you’ve had a recent brow or facelift, please wait until 6 months after surgery for treatment.
- Avoid waxing 7 days before your appointment.
- Discontinue topical retinoids 7-14 days before treatment to reduce sensitivity.
What should I do after my chemical peel?
After your peel, avoid picking or pulling peeling skin, strenuous exercise, excessive heat, and direct sun exposure. Use the post-treatment products recommended to you, wear SPF daily, and follow the aftercare instructions we review with you before you leave.
