How Long Do Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify Last?

If you're considering one of these treatments or already getting them regularly, duration is usually the first question we receive.

At Self Skin Studio, we offer Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify. Botox lasts 3 to 4 months. Dysport lasts 3 to 4 months. Daxxify may last longer than 3 to 4 months on some patients. The product is only part of the equation, and a few factors tend to shift those numbers more than people expect.

If you're more of a visual learner, we walk through all three in the video below.

What Are Injectables and How Do They Treat Wrinkles?

Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify are all neuromodulators, meaning they temporarily relax the muscles responsible for creating expression lines. They work by interrupting the signal from nerve to muscle so the muscle relaxes and the skin above it softens. All three are derived from botulinum toxin type A and reach the same result. They just get there through slightly different formulas.

What are Dynamic vs. Static Wrinkles?

Dynamic wrinkles are lines that form because of muscle movement, forehead lines, crow's feet, and the 11s between the brows. They show up when you're making expressions and deepen over time as the same movements repeat year after year. Static wrinkles are lines that stay visible even when your face is at rest, because the crease has become etched into the skin. Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify primarily target dynamic wrinkles, and when used consistently, they can help prevent those lines from ever becoming static.

How long Do Botox and Dysport Last?

Botox and Dysport work the same way. The main difference between them is that Dysport spreads slightly more easily, which makes it a good fit for larger areas like the forehead, while Botox is often preferred for more precise placement around the eyes and brows. Results from both typically start showing around 4 to 7 days after treatment, with full effects visible at 2 weeks, and last 3 to 4 months for most patients. Many patients notice Dysport kicks in slightly faster than Botox, sometimes beginning to show as early as day 3 or 4.

One thing worth noting: patients with a dairy allergy or lactose intolerance cannot receive Dysport. Botox and Daxxify are both still options.

How Long Does Daxxify Last?

Daxxify is the newest of the three and the one we get the most questions about. It uses a peptide-based formula that differs from the protein structure in Botox and Dysport, and that difference is what gives it a longer duration.

At Self Skin Studio, patients who tend to metabolize Botox and Dysport on the faster end, or who want to come in less frequently for maintenance, are often the best candidates. Onset is slightly faster than Botox, typically 3 to 4 days, and the results feel and look the same. The longer duration is the main draw.

What Actually Affects How Long Your Results Last

The duration ranges above are averages. Where your results land depends on a few things worth understanding.

Metabolism. Your body processes neurotoxin the same way it processes everything else. Patients with faster metabolisms tend to see results wear off closer to the 3-month mark, while those with slower metabolisms often get closer to 4. This is one of the most common reasons two people getting the same treatment in the same areas have different timelines.

Muscle strength and activity. Stronger, more active muscles break down the product faster. People who are very expressive or highly athletic sometimes notice a shorter duration overall. This is also why some areas of the face hold results longer than others.

Treatment area. The area around the eyes sees a lot of movement throughout the day, which can shorten duration compared to the forehead or brow. Areas like the masseter, the jaw muscle used for chewing, tend to hold results longer because they activate less frequently than expression muscles.

Dosage. A conservative dose may not last as long as a full dose because there's less product relaxing the muscle. If your first treatment felt like it wore off quickly, it may be a dosing conversation.

First treatment vs. regular maintenance. First-time patients often notice their results don't last quite as long as expected, and that's normal. The muscles are responding to the treatment for the first time. With consistent maintenance, most patients find their results become more predictable over time, and some patients who have been getting neurotoxin for several years are able to go slightly longer between appointments as the muscles train themselves to move less forcefully.

What Happens as It Wears Off

Results don't disappear all at once. The muscle gradually regains its ability to move, and lines return slowly rather than snapping back overnight. Most patients start noticing movement returning before the lines themselves fully reappear.

A concern we hear often is whether wrinkles will be worse if you stop. The answer is no. When neurotoxin wears off, your face returns to where it was before treatment. If anything, consistent treatment over time can help prevent lines from deepening, because the muscle has been relaxing repeatedly rather than creating the same crease over and over.

How to Help Your Results Last

A few things work in your favor when it comes to getting the most out of your treatment. Avoiding strenuous exercise and significant heat for the first 24 to 48 hours after your appointment helps the product settle without interference. Consistent SPF use protects the skin from additional sun damage that accelerates aging, and keeping up with a regular treatment schedule is the single most impactful thing you can do over time.

Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify all work best as part of a long-term plan rather than a one-time treatment. Patients who come in consistently tend to need less product over time as the muscles gradually learn to move less forcefully, and their results become more predictable from appointment to appointment. When to Schedule Your Next Appointment

The clearest signal is when you start noticing movement returning in the treated areas, which usually happens a few weeks before the lines themselves become fully visible again. For most patients on Botox or Dysport, that's around 10 to 12 weeks after treatment. For Daxxify, that window tends to fall closer to 4 to 6 months.
