How Neuromodulators Work
At Self Skin Studio, we use Botox, Dysport, and Daxxify. They all work by temporarily relaxing the muscles responsible for creating dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines that form from repeated facial expressions like squinting, furrowing your brows or raising your forehead.
The result is smoother skin in those areas and, over time, prevention of those lines from becoming deeper and more set. They do not add volume and they do not change your facial structure.They simply give overactive muscles a rest.
Botox
Botox is the original and most well-known neuromodulator. It has decades of clinical data behind it and a long track record of safe, predictable results in experienced hands.
Results typically take two weeks to fully appear and last around three to four months on average. It is a great choice for crow's feet, the forehead and the area between the brows. It can also be used for brow lifting, neck bands, lip lines and excessive sweating.
Dysport
Dysport uses a similar mechanism to Botox but has a slightly different molecular structure. It tends to spread a bit more once injected, which can make it a better choice for larger treatment areas like the forehead. Duration is comparable to Botox at around three to four months.
Daxxify
Daxxify is the newest neuromodulator available and what makes it stand out is duration. Where Botox and Dysport typically last three to four months, Daxxify is formulated to last longer for many patients.
For patients who find themselves coming in every three months for treatments and would love a longer interval between appointments, Daxxify can be a meaningful change. It uses a peptide-based stabilizer rather than human albumin, which some patients prefer.
